Backups on Shared Hosting without cURL

I’m trying to get backups running properly - but it looks like Backup Pro (Mithra62) only uses CURL commands for the CRON jobs. My Shared Hosting provider doesn’t allow CURL. Here’s what they say:

Curl requires loopback to work and the shared servers don’t allow loopbacks.

Is there a way to trigger Backup Pro, using a CRON job, but without using CURL?
