No option to limit character count for testarea

When i create a new field in a field group of type “textarea”, there’s no option for character limit.
I understand rich text areas not hvaing this, but a text area is just pure text. Why doesn’t it have character limit?

Because they don’t .😉
They are stored in the Db using a type that does not have a character restriction (a MySQL text field) - which is what EE uses to do restrictions. Typically an addon is used for character limiting.

Text fields can have a max number of characters, but not textareas. Curious what limit you are wanting to apply?
