How do I get "Items to relate with this entry" relationships box on CP to "live" search for users with restricted permissions?

How Do I?

Using EE 3.5.7 with a Safari 9.1.3 browser…

Perhaps this is a bug… not sure. I have super admin privileges and the Relationships “Items to relate with this entry” form on the publishing panel searches through our thousands of entries just fine when I enter a term into the search box. However I have other editors with lesser privileges and when they enter a term in the box nothing happens. At first I thought it was a browser problem, but if I sign out of their account and sign in with mine (on their computer with the same browser open) it works fine.

Am I missing something? Is there a setting in member privileges that would prevent this search from happening? I have authorized most publishing functions on their accounts – they just can’t get to system items like add-ons, etc. I’ve also blocked a couple channels they don’t need.

Thanks!

A user needs to have access/permissions to the channel they are searching, relationship fields load in entries from other channels, if the viewer doesn’t have permissions for a specific channel the relationships field won’t show them those entires or let them search those entries.

Hi James,

That makes sense. Our site covers movies and news about movies. We are linking news items to the movie entries the item is discussing. Our editors have access to the movie channel and the news channel. And they can see all the entries – it’s just the search that isn’t working. (We have over 4,000 entires, so it’s a big list to pick through.) So I don’t think that’s the problem.

Hi,

Can you try something for me?

Go into the member permissions for the group that is not able to search and scroll down to “Add-ons” and set “Access add-ons” to Yes, and then check “Relationships” under “Allowed add-on access” and then click save.

After that please have them try to search again.

Hey James,

You win the prize. That did it. Still seems unnecessary but this is a workable solution. Thank you!

Hi,

Yeah it should not be necessary, but looks like there is a bug in there that we are working on, so for the time being this permissions work around is needed.
