channel_search_modify_search_query hook still references channel_data table

Publisher uses the channel_search_modify_search_query hook and the first parameter is the SQL query used to perform the search and it does not appear to be referencing the new channel_data_field_# tables. I made sure I had some new fields created so there are several channel_data_field_# tables present, and the fields were set to include in search.

Is this intentional or am I missing something?
