add a "character_limit" variable modifer

Currently, the :limit modifier is great. But, it still outputs an entire word. I want to force limit by character so I can output only 1 or 2 characters.

Doing a creative design where I create monograms based on the first letter of different text fields. I don’t want to have to have yet another field for the editor to enter the monogram letters. Just want to build it automatically.
