Customize order of fields in a channel

How Do I?

I’m using EE 4+. Is it possible for me to customize the order of fields in a channel so that they are grouped together and make more sense to the client using the control panel?

I’ve noticed that if I add more fields after developing the original set - due to needs brought up later by the client or changes I want to make to improve usability - I can’t change the order of fields. They are set….somewhere else?

For example, here’s how I have a channel’s fields built out

I added Home slider image 6 after I had created the initial set. Now when I go to edit or add an entry, Home slider image 6 is at the bottom of the edit screen. I’d like it to be up with its brethren, the home slider images. I want to move this field further up the screen.

There used to be a module for this type of stuff, but it’s old and doesn’t work anymore.

Thanks

Geof

Never mind, I found the details at https://expressionengine.stackexchange.com/questions/34878/channel-field-sort-order-in-ee3.

I will say that upon going to https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/cp/channel/layouts/index.html and having seen it before, the content there doesn’t click or make sense for this purpose. You then end up on this screen https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/cp/channel/layouts/form.html but there’s no clear instructions on what you can do with this feature. Even just a sentence or two would suffice.

Thanks

Geof
