How to turn off email notifications to users on profile changes?

How Do I?

Is it possible to turn off automatic email notification to users - e.g. when passwords change etc.?

I’m doing some development work on a membership based site, and it would be helpful to prevent such messages using something less brutal than putting dud information into the SMTP info for site.

Thanks in advance for any guidance on this.

Aside from subscriptions and admin notifications where they are explicitly in a list to notify, automatic notifications should be very rare. But the password change email is done for security and there isn’t a setting to disable it.

Short answer- it depends on the email, but there’s no universal ‘disable all emails’ switch. The idea of just using bad settings or even spinning up a quick addon (there’s a hook in emails that would let you easily bypass sending) would be the way to go to disable all.

OK thanks - I’ll leave it with broken SMTP login for now - hopefully another of the things that will get sorted out when the Member facilities in EE get overhauled … (which is soon I hope!).

Give this a shot JCOGS Design. I use it in similar situations, so thought I’d share it. It lets you limit emails that the installation sends out to one domain (or your own email address), so you can work with live data in a dev/staging environment without spamming people.

Disable Email extension.
