Which email and RSS service do you use? Is there any free ones that people use?

Google Feedburner is dying and maybe gone in a year or two.

I don’t except to consume, and I believe a couple of us use feedly for that. What aspects of Feedburner are you using? Email subscriptions or display/tracking?

Hi Robin,

I use Feedburner for both email & RSS. But it seems like they haven’t done much updating on these.

I have seen people using Mail Chimp.

I used mail chimp for email at one point, and liked it. The rss to email instructions are really easy, and sound like a nice feature. We definitely discourage running bulk email via php, so that would be a nice option.

Trying to remember why I stopped using them- I think they started charging for something I was doing free, and it was a hobby site so didn’t make sense to pay.

Dear Robin,

Do you know how I can just show the summary of my post than the whole post in my RSS feed. I want to make sure people click on the post and come to my site.

Thank you!

It should be easy- do you have a field that has the summary you want to show? Just go in and edit your rss feed in the template manager so instead of showing all of the fields, you just include the summary field.

Or- if you don’t have a summary field, you could use an add-on to truncate your main content. So cut it off after 50 words or whatever works.

Treat your rss content like you would any other use of the channel entry tag- you’ve got control over what you show.

If that made no sense, give us a sample of your rss feed and we can brainstorm it.

Thanks Robin. It worked. I just added the summary field.

Also, thank you for chiming in the forums. I hope the forums will have much more activity. One of the complaints that I heard about EE is the lack of support in the forums. So glad to see this.

Just a suggestion: Would be good to have those ‘thank you’ up votes in the forums. Just a way to motivate people to contribute more.
