Question re RSS and/or Email

I have been out of blogging for a while and just now starting again after a few years. Back in the day RSS was the thing but I’m seeing now it’s not used so much and email subscriptions seem to be the preferred mode.
My questions re this are:
1) Is RSS needed anymore?
2) Is email subscription a replacement or do you guys use both?
3) Are there any plugins/tutorials or recommendations for implementing mail subscriptions? (latest EE version)
Interesting question. There’s zero doubt usage is way down, but I think on some sites it’s still a nice option. Plus it’s stupid easy to include, so especially for a blog, I think it’s nice to have. This was an interesting take on it, and I was in general agreement with the conclusions.
As a consumer of information, I prefer it to email, because I get way too much email as it is. There isn’t a robust add-on for general content subscriptions that I’m aware of, but something like Mailchimp would do the trick.
