How Do I?
surprisingly difficult to find an answer on this via search engines (irony!). hopefully a simple question:
i have a search function in the header of my website. a user enters a search phrase and clicks submit
Right now results are ordered by entry date, as is the default i believe. I’d like those results to be organized by channel or category group. Is this possible?
I don’t want a user to have to select parameters before searching.
Would I need an add-on for this functionality?
You’re not going to be able to do it natively. You can order by the same parameters available to the channel entries, but neither category nor channel are valid options.
Check out Low Search- it gives you more options, though I’m not sure it will do exactly what you’re looking for either.
It’s an unusual approach to searching, and depending on the specifics of the site, there might be some other ways to approach it. But I’d check out Low Search first- if it will do the trick, that’s the easy option.
