I’m very excited to read in your blog post about LTS for 5 years. This is incredibly positive for web designers, developers, design studios and other plugins/extensions ecosystem developers, but more important, for companies and business using EE as it will give them more stability without having to update constantly with breaking changes. We know, the enterprise moves slow. LTS is great news.

I also read you are going to support the Twig template systems which again is very positive as most IDE don’t support EE syntax anyway and Twig seems a good approach to attract more designers as its widely popular as templating system for people that are not programmers but designers.

What about the core? Are you finally moving away from CodeIgniter? Or it will use the new CodeIgniter core in the feature? Personally, I was hoping a lot for the new release of CodeIgniter but after it was released, I have little confidence on the people behind the project now to keep it forward. I would rather prefer if EE moved more into using Symfony core components which of course Twig is also part of. This is by far the most robust system, even Laravel is based on it, as well Drupal, Joomla, Joomla, and every CMS in existence today.

It would also make it far more attractive for existing developer companies that need to integrate a content CMS into its customers websites, as they most likely are already using Symfony.

We’re really excited about v6 too!

ExpressionEngine hasn’t been on CI in… quite a few iterations. It was basically impossible to keep in sync and we moved away from it in v3. There are still libraries that share a lot of code, as CI originally came out of EE. But that’s mostly legacy and they haven’t been linked moving forward.

I notice that my templates etc from EE 5< are not listed when i go to the system file directory on my server. How can we make them visible and therefore editable under unix.
