How Do I?

I am embarking on an upgrade from version 2.x to 5. Before I try to do anything, I want to backup everything I can. I am currently backing up my public_html folder without issue but I want to make sure that I am getting all of the EE DBs et all.

How do I make sure the EE and the DBs are backed up?

Thanks for your help!!

You absolutely want a good database backup before upgrading from 2-5.

There are a lot of ways to do it, but probably the easiest if you’re asking- your host has a control panel- cPanel, Plesk, something. You can login and manage things- right?

Take a look- see if one of the tools in the hosting cp is PHPMyAdmin. That’s pretty standard on a lot of hosts. Then find your database and make an export- you’ll end up with an sql file that you can download and use to ‘roll back’ if anything goes wrong. Here’s a random tutorial worth a quick read. Your host probably has an FAQ with info specific to their cp.
