Akismet extension and module combo

I had to come in and praise this one.

For months the English version of my band’s website has been getting more and more spam (comments are enabled for news). The build-in EE solutions didn’t really help at all and deleting 5-30 spams a day never worked (15 minutes after I deleted all spam, there were new ones). I knew I had to do something and I wish I had done this sooner!

I looked into Akismet and Bad Behavior and decided to go with Akismet for now. Less than two days after installing it (which took like a minute) it has blocked 70 spams and not a single genuine comment.

I have few suggestions.

1) Would it be possible to have a counter at the top & bottom of the Akismet module page saying how many comments are currently labeled as spam? Maybe even a counter for all spam blocked by the extension since it was installed? I know, not a very important functionality, but if I would see the message “Currently 72 comments marked as spam. Total of 1543 comments blocked since [date of installation].” I would probably donate more than once, because I would be reminded constantly how much this exension makes my life easier. 😉

2) On the EE native comment page I can click the whole row (wherever I want) and it selectes the row. On the Akismet comment page I have to click the checkbox. It would make things easier and faster if clicking the row would be enough (not sure if this is a Javascript or just a simple label tag thing).
