Extension dissected: add birthday to member registration

I wrote up a quick extension to allow the addition of birthday fields to the member registration form: Register Birthday.
Of interest to those who are just beginning to write extensions or who have previously been apprehensive of doing so, I also blogged a complete dissection of the extension that should prove to be useful for new extension developers.

Rather old thread, but has anyone had an issue with this and the latest build 1.6.9 (Build 20100430)? Adding in the fields (bday_y / bday_m / bday_d) in to a standalone registration form returns a blank page.

Edit - turns out it may not be related - my whole registration system now just returns a blank page. =/
