Is there a way that I can do an IF statement so if there is no pictures in the gallery yet, that section of code isn’t shown?
I think it would be best if you created a weblog just for galleries so you know that each entry in the weblog gallery would have images. What do you think?
Rethinking the Module
I’ve been doing some heavy thinking regarding this module. I want to restructure them module so it would function a little bit more efficiency. The big problem was using CSS and making it work on several browsers and platforms. That alone is sooo time consume that it made the whole development dreadful instead of joyful. I’m trying to think of other alternatives of developing this. Sticking with very simply DIV / CSS or TABLE or converting the whole thing to Flash / Flex.
The Easy Gallery will still have the same functionality. The only changes are on the User Interface in the Control Panel. My thoughts are: - convert into a full blown File Manager & Image Gallery with extras - popup in a new window like the current file manager. (more control avoiding any existing EE’s Publish code. - works either standalone or integrated with EE Publish. - no longer ‘dependent’ to ‘entry_id’, you will able to specify your own directory name. I’ve been thinking how I might want to access other images of other galleries, maybe add an icon from an icon gallery or a sunset photo from a landscape gallery etc…
I wanted to create a module that a lot of my problems and at the moment I find the File upload a bit limiting. The goal is to have another beta next week. Maybe calling it Easy Media. 😛
Any thoughts?
I’ll post some hand drawn mockups later.
WOW
You guys are insane.. and uber-cool too 😉 .. and seem to be on a roll
This module is awesome.. i’ve been frustrated by the limited capabilities of the upload/manager built in.. and fried my brain trying to figure out how to get a descent gallery going -weblog-style- without it being unintuative for a end user..
In one case I made the step to do image management outside of EE (using SlideShowPro Director).. because of it’s usefulness for non-techies..
EE’s a designers dream.. but not quite an end-users dream yet..
Keep up the good work!!!
If it gets stable-ish.. I’ll be donating! (maybe a bit sooner.. if it needs a puch)
The EE Easy Shop is also very interesting! ‘ll be keeping an eye open for 1.0’s
Bbr*
… oh the passion 😏
To our beloved EE company: PLS PAY/HIRE THESE GUYS!
The Esasy Gallery is going to be an awesome addition to the EE modules. It should be kept in mind that it is easy to integrate the main gallery into templates and entries as well, and have it related to the entries.
If each doesn’t try to do the work of the other nor need to replace the other then it will be easier to configure and use for specific situations if that makes sense.
As for css problems, perhaps that should be left to the site manager/designer?
Well playing with it a bit more, I have a problem. Not sure if it’s a bug or me.
When the extension is enabled and I go to post an entry, my control panel ends up taking on structure/css/graphics aspects of my home page.
So the header of my home page is somehow squished into the header of the control panel in EE.
When I click on the Gallery tab, my whole home page is shown in the content area (middle area of the screen, where I assume Gallery stuff is suppose to show up).
Also, the footer of expression engine is a different color (the color of my home page).
When I disable the extension everything goes back to normal, and the post entry page does not take on style sheet aspects of my home page.
If you would like screen shots let me know.
Plugins
Extensions - Easy Gallery - Gallery Dropdown (Changes a text box to a drop down menu, disabled)
Modules - EE Poll - Easy Gallery - FreeForm
I should note I was incorrect in my previous post, the only time this mess up occurs is when I click on the Gallery tab, not anywhere else.
EDIT: I reinstalled it, still no dice. Still showing my home page in the gallery window under the Gallery Tab, as per the screenshot.
Upload_test.html works though.
@Briggs,
That is very weird, are you using a custom CSS? I’m going to rebuild Easy Gallery to make use of iFrame. So far that sounds like the best solution to avoid any EE CSS and HTML code that might conflict with jQuery and its set of CSS.
I’m going to be doing some research tonight on the new interface.
BTW, this should be easily integrated into Slideshow Pro (SSP). You should be able to create your Slideshow Pro XML template file and have it feed your SSP Flash.

If you mean custom css for my control panel, no. Just the newest, default skin that was made for 1.6.
Also, I do not create a template css file for my site css, I just keep a normal, css file in the root and reference that. It’s not named anything that should conflict (rollout.css) and I tried deleting it, and looking at my control panel to see if that fixed anything, and no dice. I removed everything on my home page except the words “coming soon”, and they appear in the middle area still. Nothing is in the banner area, like before.
Here is a new screen shot, all you will see is “coming soon” in the middle. THis is the only content on my home page, which for some reason is being sucked into that area in the gallery tab..
Edit: I have also removed any extensions and modules that I may have installed. They are no longer present. Plugins are still there as I am using those.

There’s no ‘coming soon’ text on any of the code, I’m just wondering where its coming from.
Hopefully the new beta will address all those problems. I’ll be getting to that right away.
“Coming soon”, is what is on the main page of my website at this moment. Index.php consists of only those words. (I removed all my regular home page stuff and swapped it for those words)
Earlier, it was that banner, with some graphics.
What is happening, is that somehow, index.php, my home page, is being sucked into the control panel and being spit out in the easy gallery module, in parts of the control panel (header, gallery area, footer)
Hopefully the beta will magically fix whatever it is!
Everything was working fine on my local machine, but since I’ve uploaded it to a live server (and changed the paths in the extension), I get this error when trying to do the upload test:

Sounds like SAFE MODE in PHP needs to be off. You have to tweak you php.ini settings or your Apache conf.
Wow I think people can’t wait for the new beta, started to apply it to their production server. Beware, its still in beta.
