Repeet Alternative? Repeating Calendar Event

I’m looking to creative a “Today in History” type calendar.
I’ve checked out the “Repeet” plug-in (http://lincolnite.com/ee/repeet/) and it looks pretty good. The only thing that has me worried is that you have to sort of trick the system if you want it to keep repeating by giving it an end date way in the future - the example is 10 years.
Is there an alternative out there?
Is this something that can be taken care of with just EE?

I’d go with On This Day - seems perfect for you. The tags for Repeet are complex, I think it’s more than you need.
