Customize CP’s form submission based on Status

After a user edited and submitted an entry, I want to do some custom work based on the setting of entry’s Status.
For example, if entry’s status is “Own”, author ID of this entry will be the user who submitted this form; if status is “Contribution”, then author ID will be some one else.
I think I shall go with an extension. Can anybody suggest me which one shall I go with?

Which hook, you mean? I THINK that submit_new_entry_start would work, because you could check/change the globals there. If not, submit_new_entry_end would do the trick. And… I’m going to shift this one down to the extensions forum where you may get more input on this one.
