Solstice Tags and Technorati

(I asked this on the Soltice forum and haven’t received a reply yet, so I’d like to ask here)

I’m a new user of the tags module, on a site still in development. I’m trying to understand how to set it up to get my tags to work with Technorati. I come from a Wordpress background (yuck!) and we had plugins that would let us enter the tags, and then when someone searched for that tag keyword in Technorati, my tagged post would be included in the results list.

I have installed Solstice Tags. Does this tags module do this automatically, or do I need to do something else in EE? I don’t see anything in the Tags config pages in EE.

I’m using the Solspace Tag Module and as far as I’m aware you don’t need to do anything special other than being sure to update your RSS templates to include the tags. Technorati has been recognizing my tags for awhile now. The proof is in my referrer logs that show folks coming to my site from one or another tag listing at Technorati.

I got a reply on the Solspace forum:

I’m not very familiar with Technorati, but it seems that you just apply rel=”tag” to your Tag:Tags links code, like this: <pre><code>{exp:tag:tags entry_id="{entry_id}” type=”weblog” backspace=”2” orderby=”clicks” sort=”desc” limit=”10”} {tag}, {/exp:tag:tags}</code></pre>

Les, how is yours set up? I have this line in my RSS feed:

<dc:subject>{exp:xml_encode}{exp:tag:tags entry_id="{entry_id}" backspace="2"}{tag}, {/exp:tag:tags}{/exp:xml_encode}</dc:subject>

And it must be wrong somehow, because while the tags are showing up, the whole list of tags is showing up as being ONE tag. Oops.

That’s what I have as well. I just checked Technorati and it appears to be separating out my tags without any trouble. Not sure what to suggest.

Technorati just hates me. Oh well! Thanks for checking 😊

Okay, my tags are working in Technorati. However, I have an issue I cannot figure out how to deal with.

I do not repeat my categories in the tags as that would be redundant. I also don’t plug in the main keyword of my site in every post as that would make the keyword absolutely huge in my Tag Cloud. BUT, and it’s a big but, the category names and the site’s main keyword should be sent to Technorati as well.

Specifically in my blog, the main topic is Home Robots. Every post relates to that. So I want it Technorati tags. And the subcategories, like Robot Building, Toys, Humanoid, etc need to be Technorati tags. But I don’t want these repeated in the Tag cloud or in the list of tags in the post itself–it’s redundant.

As you can imagine, not having my posts tags for Technorati with “robots” is not good for my blog.

How do I accomplish getting my main keyword, plus my categories, into Technorati tags?
