Mark Huot File Extension Not Outputting File Path

Development and Programming

Hello all,

I’m having a problem with Mark Huot’s File extension. A lengthy trawl through the main File thread didn’t help, unfortunately.

I have a separate upload directory for images associated with different weblogs. The images for the “Products” weblog are uploading and displaying just fine. The images for the “Designers” weblog are uploading, but the filename is output without the file path. For example:

mies.jpg

instead of

http://www.site.com/images/uploads/designers/mies.jpg

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  1. Deleting the “designers” image directory from the server, and deleting the “designers” upload location from the “File Uploads” Admin section. Then recreating both.
  2. As above, plus deleting and recreating the relevant custom weblog fields.
  3. Deleting individual weblog entries, and recreating them from scratch.

The only thing that I haven’t done is delete the entire “Designers” weblog, and recreate everything from scratch, largely because that would be a massive pain.

I’m using version 3.1.1 of the File extension.

Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Stephen

You might need to contact Mark directly for assistance, as we do not support third party code ourselves.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the response.

Am I correct in thinking that any registered EE user who reads my question can pitch in with an answer? Or have I posted this in completely the wrong place?

Cheers, Stephen

Indeed they could. But I want to make sure there is a clear understanding about what EllisLab does and does not support ourselves in these forums, so if your post remains unanswered that you (and others) know that you should turn to the original developer.

Stephen, have you taken a close look at your File Upload Preferences (under Weblog Administration). I think you’re missing a path.

Hi wondermonkey. I’ve been through the paths several times and checked things. In the end I was forced to give up on the File extension for the problem weblog, and revert to a standard Text Input field, and the EE image uploader.

A couple of days later, the same problem started happening with new images uploaded to another weblog (which had been working fine up to that point). I really have no idea what’s causing it, but I’ve been forced to admit defeat, and remove the File extension from the entire site.

I’ve had a hell of a time with File 3.1.1 too! My custom weblog field switching javascript is broken too. Unfortunately I need EE to do exactly what File allows, so I’m better off with it than without. My fingers are crossed (hard) that this functionality is built into EE2.0.

I’m having a problem with the server path, too.

Notice: Undefined index: server_path in /MY SERVER PATH/SYSTEM/extensions/ext.mh_file_ext.php on line 521

I’ve tried a variety of paths in the File Upload preferences with no luck.

Was getting same error and my problem was not in the File Upload preferences but in my custom fields. I was uploading several files with each post and one of them had no “upload location” defined. Fixed the problem for me….
