Latest 1st party module versions?

I think this one is for the dev team but if you know the answer feel free to chime in…
Is there a way to access the version number and build of the first party modules?
The reason I ask is I would like to expand the capabilities of my: LG Latest EE plugin.
Maybe there could be a text file (similar to eeversion.txt) that can be parsed by: http://au2.php.net/parse_ini_file?
I realise you guys have your hands full at the moment so its not a major issue. Maybe something like this can be added for the 2.0 release?

You can access the version number in the exp_modules table, or you can fetch the $version from the cp. files of each module.
Just some thoughts..
I was actually referring to the latest download available on the EE site
