Help/idea: Smoothgallery/timed slideshow + module

Hi,

I would like to create something similar to http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/ or http://www.moddb.com/ feature gallery that you see on the top. I have found Smoothgallery where you can set a descriptive text, image and the delay time for when it switches to the next slide.

My original thought was to create custom fields so you could feature certain posts from on the site, but then I wouldn’t be able to feature forum posts or anything else. So the idea is to create a module, where you can add/delete/edit/move up and down a set number of entries to the gallery.

When creating a new entry, you get these options: Title: (textfield for typing in title) Description (textfield for description) Image url: (textfield for url) target url: (textfield for url, this is where ppl get sent when clicking on the entry) Open url in new window: (checkbox for yes/no)

Settings for the module: - set delay time between slides - set number of entries to show, works with id. If 5, then the first 5 entries on the list will be shown.

Might be other things one could add to this too.. my problem is I need either help in learning how to create a module and do stuff like this, or that someone could pick up this idea.
