Is Cool Commerce a goner?

We’re launching site with very light e-commerce and we were using Cool Climate’s CoolCommerce with FoxyCart, then I discovered today on their site:

Cool Climate Shutting Down Due to other commitments, we have decided to shut down Cool Climate. These products will still be available for a short while but, completely unsupported.

Yikies. Is anybody here taking over development of Cool Commerce? It almost works… just needs a few tweaks.

Oh no, what horrible timing! We’re in the same boat - launching a site this week. I’m not sure what we should do at this point - I’d hate to keep using a solution that’s no longer supported.

Has anyone made any advances on other fronts, or is this still the best out there for now?

Whoa. That’s why I haven’t had any responses from the creators. Honestly, this couldn’t come at a worse time! We’re launching a major ecommerce site in about a month! Are there any other solutions?

As tenuous as the support for the plugin was before, I’m fairly certain this will effectively kill it for good. Which is really too bad - my client was very excited about the FoxyCart functionality.

We skipped over it completely in the beginning, but does anyone have experience with this vs. the Simple Commerce module? Are there any pros or cons (other then FoxyCart, of course). We need something that will definitely work after the the 2.0 switchover and it looks like CC wont fit the bill anymore.

That’s pretty poor. Surely some kind of announcement or opportunity to throw it out to the community would have been a good idea?

Agreed - this really leaves us in a lynch, and sounds like its the same for some of you as well.

I see this as a big opportunity for some enterprising developer to make a little $$$. We would gladly pay for something stable and supported at this point.

We took a look at the innards of the module and thing that “finishing it” won’t be that big of a deal. Turns out there are a number of functions that were never implemented, but most are.

So we are going to finish it for our use, but I hate to distribute something with official word from the Cool Commerce guys. Hopefully someone can get in touch when them.

I can’t promise anything, but I’ll try to at least make it available.

Hopefully EE 2.0 will make Cool Commerce a mute point.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed, I would be interested in it once you make it available.

I’ve been in communication with Brett Florio over at FoxyCart and he mentioned they’ve been talking to a “firm that will likely be taking over the CoolCommerce development in one way or another” (Payton, not sure if that’s you or not). I’ve asked him to keep me posted so I’ll let you all know what I’m able to find out.

LOL. That might be us, I sent Brett an email earlier today saying that. Maybe he responded to your email before mine.

😊

(BTW, my first name is actually “T.” just the initial. But you can call me Payton if you wish.)

No problem, T it is 😊

Brett mentioned this late last week, so maybe there’s a someone else looking at it as well? The more the merrier I suppose - this is the best thing we have, I think, until EE 2.0 comes out (and possibly after that if they don’t do something internally).

T., I just wanted to let you know that I am also using CoolCommerce and would be interested in anything you could cook up. ^___^

Thanks!

P.S. - Is it just me, or is the downloadable products functionality on the current build of CoolCommerce completely broken? I can’t get it to put the download link in the receipt…
