A Hout-style File Extension that can browse previously uploaded files?

I use Huot’s File extension everywhere (this type of field pretty much needs to be mandatory in 2.0 to some degree) but the problem my clients run into is that they want to use the same file they uploaded for one entry on multiple entries. They shouldn’t have to re-upload or overwrite anything, but, like the somewhat not-easy-to-understand built-in EE File upload window mechanism pop-up thingy, they should have the option to select a previously uploaded file rather than always having to upload a new one. Has anyone tweaked Mark’s extension to do this sort of thing?

I’m just throwing this out there as a discussion topic, because I’m not too stoked about having to backtrack on a build I’ve done and convert a File field into a text input field and then make a screencast for the client about how to use the pop-up window to select whether they should click “Insert Link” or “Insert URL” and to remember to select the correct field for the image/PDF to go into. They were having a hard enough time with the relatively simple File field type!

That looks pretty interesting. Wonder how easy it would be to make into an extension?
