Do you use the weblog module as your photo gallery instead of the gallery module? Frustrated that you can’t see the images in the edit screen?

Fret no longer!

Hambo Development is proud to announce - LG Image Preview

LG Image Preview is a Multi-Site Manager compatible ExpressionEngine extension that adds a small thumbnail preview to weblog entries in the control panel edit page. The thumbnail is generated from data in a weblogs specified custom field if available.

Each weblog has its own thumbnail settings including which custom field to mine for the image url, thumbnail height and width, an option to link to the original image in a pop-up window and whether to show a thumbnail at all.

This extension is very similar to Ryan Masugas Weegee ExpressionEngine extension and is released publicly with his blessing.

This extension was funded by Hambo Development but was coded by Leevi Graham, hence the LG prefix.

I have zipped up the extension and language file so this should be ok.

File removed. You can download it from Leevi’s site now.

How is this different from Ryan’s extension? They both look great and are wonderful ideas, just wondering which one to choose.

thanks

Ryans extension works with Mark Huots file extension. My version also creates and caches the thumbs rather than using css to resize the original image. This makes it a bit faster as well.

Hi Geof,

This extension was created because when you use the EE upload function and choose URL only, you don’t get an image preview, just a text string.

The client wanted to be able to see the thumbnail so I though I would go a step further and introduce it in the CP (Inspired by Ryan’s Weegee extension).

Leevi has managed to create an extension that can detect what kind of string has been uses (Link or URL only), add the appropriate code for the CP to pick up (doesn’t affect the custom field content) then display it in the CP.

Oh plus you can configure the weblog, the custom field that contains the image and the thumbnail attributes!

Would also be nice if the extension could work with say a full URL something like :

http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en_uk/images/logo.gif

Just a thought though. Also would be great if it worked with full URLs like above, relative server URLs, anything uploaded with the File extension and the upload tool in ExpressionEngine but now I really am being nit-picky.

Very very kind of you to offer this to the community like you have Steven. You Sir are a gentleman.

Best wishes,

Mark

Yes you are. Banish yourself immediately!

Perhaps Leevi would be kind enough to add that functionality at some point in the future. It only takes a donation!

Hey Mark,

If http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en_uk/images/logo.gif is the only value in the field it will work fine! … Relative server urls could be added in the next version.

Cheers

Hmm,

Will try again later but I did try the other day and nothing showed up. Don’t know what is up there though? Will try again later on.

Thanks again for such a great extension although I don’t have a place to actually use it yet 😉

Best wishes,

Mark

Hi

I just installed the extension and nothing shows up on the edit entries page :/

GD and GD2 ist installed and works. I get the image preview column, but the cells are empty. Also no errors thrown.

Any ideas?

Did you configure the extension and choose a weblog and a field within it to display?

Show us what you have in the custom field as well.

Sure. I attached you the screenshots of my configuration and setup.

A big portion has been removed by me (size restrictions), in the EDIT panel screenshot, I’ve outlined you the empty cell with the missing preview pic (I guess).
