Just what the title says, I’m developing a module for a client that converts phpBB3.0 forums to EE forums. I know there’s a thread here that covers this idea, but I’m working on a cleaned up, fully functional, and easy to use, module version.
So since it’s not done yet, I don’t have a lot to post here. Why am I posting then? I’m looking for people who might be interested in this. I’m also curious how many people would be willing to pay for this service, or at least make a donation for it. (I’m a college student, debts are easy to collect. Money? Not so much.)
This plug-in will be part of a suite of plug-ins I’ll be releasing that should make total phpBB3 conversion painless and complete.
So who’s interested?
-Daniel
Seems not too many people are interested.
Oh well, my client still needs it.
I am looking for some input. What would you, as an end user, prefer for url link fixes? A modification to the .htaccess file that allows current links to your threads in the old database to work, or the modification of the links in the posts of stored in the old database to be “transformed” into EE forum style links?
I’m leaning toward the latter of the two. If you’re leaving phpBB for EE, I think everything should move over to the new methods. Any thoughts?

Hi Daniel,
Did you manage to successfully convert the forums? I’m willing to pay for a module that will make this possible, however I have an added complication. The forum is embedded in phpNuke. That said the forum tables are very similar.
I would really like to get this across somehow. Any help would be appreciated.
Best wishes,
Sarah
Module is still very rough. Since there wasn’t much of a response, I completed it in a very hacked/fixed way for my client, so it’s not really in any shape for generic use.
That said, I have successfully completed a conversion. I can offer the code I have, as a base point to jump from, I can offer my own services, or I can provide tips/advice.
For interest’s sake, how large a forum are we talking? Members/Threads/Posts? I had a 600 member, 19,000 post/thread conversion already.

Well, here’s the thing. Like I said it’s embedded in phpNuke, but essentially it seems to be version 2. Here’s what it says in the footer:
Powered by phpBB 2.0.10 © 2001-2003 phpBB Group phpBB port v2.0.7 based on Tom Nitzschner’s phpbb port 2.0.6 upgraded to phpBB 2.0.7 standalone.
Cheers,
Sarah
That’s good enough.
I’ll take a look at what I can find out about the embedded version. My module had the beginnings of an automated search functionality to find the tables needed, but I hard-wired it after a little while.
I’ll be back. 😉

EDIT: How about file attachments/uploads? And avatars? Both deeply used?
EDIT2: This won’t be a merge with an existing EE forum, right? It’ll be a fresh forum?
Daniel, Sarah,
Has there been any progress on this module since February? I’ve developed a migration script for PHP Nuke to EE that I’m testing currently on a small PHP Nuke site that is migrating to EE, and I’d love to have some more data to try it against. Since phpBB2 is essentially the forum engine behind PHP Nuke, I imagine some simple table name changes would suffice to get it working with just phpBB2. Please PM me if anyone is interested in volunteering data. Thanks,
David
Hi David,
Sarah is away until tonight (I’m her husband 😉 ) but I can say that definitely we would be interested in seeing if your script can handle the information we have in the forum as it really does need moving across to ExpressionEngine now so I will point out this thread to her tonight and I’m sure she will be in touch really soon.
Thanks for the offer of looking into this.
Best wishes,
Mark
