Process gets stuck

Our apache logs show that FeedGrab, which we trigger with a cron, is trying to access a feed but can’t. For some reason the process gets stuck and runs on and on. As our administrator put it, the problem is sucking the life out of the server. Is there a way of setting a timeout on FeedGrab so it stops trying after a certain number of attempts?
