EE VERESION 1.6.8
Awhile back ago I reported an issue with blank pages appearing when you click on a linklocker generated link. I am having issues once again and it seems to be very random when it happens. Sometimes it works fine other times, not so much.
Sometimes when you click on the link, it works perfectly. Other times when you click on a link it opens up a blank page. Any ideas on how I can fix this, it is causing a lot of problems on our site. Here is the the code below:
{exp:weblog:entries weblog="media" sort="desc"}
<tr height="10px" {if segment_3 != url_title}class="downloads"{if:else}class="selected"{/if} >
<td><span>{entry_date format="%M %d"}</span></td>
<td><span>{related_entries id="cf_media_series"}{title}{/related_entries} - {title}</span>
<span><em>{if cf_media_speakerother == ""}{related_entries id="cf_media_speaker"}{title}{/related_entries}{if:else}{cf_media_speakerother}{/if}</em></span></td>
<td><div class="special">{if video != ""}<a href="http://{homepage}/extras/video/{url_title}/{categories}{category_id}{/categories}">/media/downloads/img/Watch.png</a>{if:else}N/A{/if}</div></td>
<td><div class="special"><a href="http://{homepage}/extras/teaching/{url_title}/{categories}{category_id}{/categories}">/media/downloads/img/Listen.png</a></div></td>
<td><div class="special">{if cf_media_notes}<a href="http://{cf_media_notes}">/media/downloads/img/Notes.png</a>{if:else}N/A{/if}</div></td>
<td><div class="special"><a href="http://{exp:linklocker">/media/downloads/img/Download.png</a></div></td>
<td><div class="special"><a href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=156266170">/media/downloads/img/Itunes.png</a></div></td>
</tr>

*These links were literally just working 5 min ago and now they are not… PLEASE HELP!
Just for your info, it’s now working for me again. Didn’t change my browser, or clear my cache, or reopen my browser or even make any code changes. Yet it goes from not working to working all by itself…
It is a very random problem, let me know if you have any ideas.
I’m still really having a tough time with this. I also just discovered that link locker on my site in Safari 4.0.3 isn’t working at all. Is there a reason you asked if it was the free version?
Nate,
I’m sorry to hear that you are still having issues with the module and the Safari web browser. The truth of the matter is that I do not have that browser installed, nor do I have a Mac environment (not sure if that would make a difference). Have you tested in other browsers? I’ve tested extensively on IE and FF in Windows environments. I’d love to help you, but I’m not sure what I can do for you.
This is actually happening on all browsers, on all platforms. I’ve seen a lot of other people having the same issue but no solutions. If you go to: http://www.lcbcchurch.com/extras/play/cat/good-luck-with-that you will be able to see what I am talking about. You may have to click a couple of times and a few different links before you see the issue, but it does eventually happen. Have you not gotten any complaints about the pay version? Why did you ask if it was the FREE version?
To answer your questions, I haven’t received a lot of these sorts of complaints, and no I haven’t received such complaints about the Pro version. I asked if this was the free version because you are posting on the support thread for the Pro version.
I visited the link you posted and I was able to download each of the files. I’m not sure what will happen if I leave the page open, but I would suspect that the links will expire - they have a default expire time if you don’t set one. This is likely the issue - once the link expires, the links no longer work. However, a hard refresh of the browser may well cause a new link to be generated, thus making the links work again. To test, in your linklocker tag, set the expires parameter to a large number and see if the links work. You may also set it to 1 and verify that the links stop working and do a hard refresh to clear the browser cache, or close the browser altogether and reopen it.
Thanks, Brad
Hey Brad -
Thanks for getting back to me. I added the expires parameter but the issue is still there. It may not happen the first time you enter into a page or click on a link. But if you keep clicking around it will happen. The issue is incredibly and hard to pin down because of that.
I tried a value of “0” on the expires parameter and even “99000”…nothing works. Any other thoughts or ideas, I would truly love to pin this issue down. Let me know, thanks for your time.
Also, something I am wondering if it is causing the issue. Right now I am using a weblog field to pull the link into the link locker tag. I am using an absolute link and it is going to an entirely different server than the actual site is on. When I look at the link it starts with the domain of my site. So here is the file location:
http://downloads.lightcastmedia.com/lcbc/GoodLuckWithThat-Baptism.mp3
and here is where link locker is taking me:
http://www.lcbcchurch.com/?ACT=26&url=1&linklocker=MTI2OTg4NjuE1OQ==C0Nj8YuMjE2LjEzUMS4yMTE=C04MQ==C0aHR0rcDovL2Rvd2U5sb2Fkcy5sMaWdodGNhc39RtZWRpYS5jAb20vbGNiYym9Hb29kTHVjDa1dpdGhUaG5F0LUJhcHRpkc20ubXAzC0jMA==C0C04
Notice that it starts with an entirely different domain name…does that matter?
The link generated of course has to go to the server with the LinkLocker script - otherwise, there would be no possibiliy to tell if the link has expired or is somehow restricted. However, I don’t know if LinkLocker Pro could have problems with links going to a second server or with you removing the index.php part of your EE installation.
