The ExpressionEngine FLV player plug-in allows you to use the JW FLV Media Player (built with Adobe’s Flash) as an easy and flexible way to add video and audio to your website.

This plugin manages the JW FLV MEDIA PLAYER 4+ and makes it easy for you to put music, videos or flash movies onto your ExpressionEngine posts and pages.

The FLV Player Plugin supports streaming video format ( .flv or .swf), sound files as MP3 and JPG, GIF or PNG grafic files.

Kick the tyres and let me know what you think

Just updated from v3 to v4. I’ve also updated the player. Worked with v3 but I wanted to add a skin so I updated the plugin and now the video wont play. I also updated the swfobject.js file to v2.1. Here’s my code for the plugin:

{exp:flvplugin playerpath="/player-viral.swf" playernumber="{entry_id}"  file="{vid_file}" width="614" height="345" showdigits="true" wmode="transparent" bufferlength="2" allowfullscreen="true" autostart="false" start="4" }<div id="player{entry_id}"></div>

and here’s the error in Firebug:

swfobject is not defined
cfgnh_video()()cfgnh_video (line 133)
[Break on this error] swfobject.embedSWF('/player-viral.swf', ...expressInstall.swf', flashvars, params);

When I switch back to the plugin for v3 it works fine.

UPDATE: The issue was the “expressinstall.swf” file name. The older version was camelCase (expressInstall), newer one is all lowercase (expressinstall). I thought I didn’t need to replace the file, but once I did it worked fine.

I have a client that is using version 4 of FlvPlugin. I didn’t develop this site but have been asked to see if I can resolve a problem they’re having. I have zero experience with flv and needless to say I’m a little confused thus far. They’ve been using it with YouTube videos with no problems but the most recent article they attempted to embed a YouTube video in does not play the video.

Here is the article with a video that works: http://livefromyourcore.com/index.php/site/article/whats_your_core_truth/

Here is the article with a video that doesn’t work: http://livefromyourcore.com/index.php/site/article/who_is_susan_boyle_anyway/

I’ve tried a different YouTube ID in place of the one that seems to not work, still no luck. So, I tried the YouTube ID from the video that does work in place of the one that doesn’t and it works fine. From that it seems like maybe a problem with the particular YouTube ID’s I was trying but I tried around 5 different ones with no luck until I tried the ID from the article above with the working video.

Any pointers on where I should go from here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Deron,

If you look at the youTube video that is not working here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY you can see that “Embedding disabled by request” in the top right hand box

Well, now I feel like an idiot. 😉

I knew you could embed video but never realized there was actually an option to disallow embedding. Makes sense.

Thanks for the quick reply, John.

John,

I would like to upload my own video’s (lectures of about 45 minutes each) to my website, and then stream them on my pages only. No youtube, no sharing, or anything else. Is that what this plugin is for? Or should I look for something else?

As you can tell, I am totally new to this “streaming video” thing.

Thanks.
