If you are using FF right click, open in new window.
I know that works as well, but as you browse through the control panel you don’t need the “Back button” in your browser since there’s always a path or link to click where you come from. Since you don’t have to use the right button anywhere, you’ll often click on a file in the filemanager without using the right-click. As a result all navigation ends in this new screen, and you assume that it’s a new window. And so you’ll automatically close the window.
I know it’s something I could/should think of, but from a usability point-of-view it’s better to open single files in a new window.
Current version is 1.2.3. Changes made, features added:
Sorry, no default opening in a new window just yet. I just can’t bring myself to adding the depricated “target” attribute to the links. And I can’t be bothered to add a workaround. Shift-click works for me. (or even ctrl/apple-click for tabbed browsing. Or alt/apple left-arrow instead of clicking the back button. The possibilities are endless…)
Just an idea. I’ve seen a few posts elsewhere by EE users after a ‘download module’. This would seem the perfect addition to the fiel manager module. If you were able to select a file and denote that you want to ‘track downloads’ and have the total count appear beside the item in the file manager interface. Just an idea. 😊

Yeah, I saw the same thing. The thing is, at the moment, the File Manager module doesn’t need any extra database tables. It just reads directories. If I was to add some sort of download management option, then I would be forced to add at least one table plus all the code that is needed to maintain that data. So… not a small thing to add. It would require quite some free time, anyway. Something that I’m short on already. 😊
For the time being… I know Mint has a plugin (or “Pepper” as they call it) that can track your downloads in a nice and unobtrusive way.
There seem to be 2 Peppers available that do the same thing, anyone had experience with either???

Joyrex, sorry for not replying sooner… Nonetheless, I’m glad this issue is solved.
Newbie question:
Will this module let me put a client FTP on my site?
I want to allow clients to login with a username/password then upload/download files into a server folder, and then view a list of files on the server when their done.
If this module won’t do that- can someone point me to another way to do this in ee?
thanks very much,
Summer
