Wow, a pair of fantastic extensions - well done both!
I’m having an issue that’s really hard to track down - hopefully someone can help me!
I’m using the File field inside a FF Matrix inside a SAEF. I’m also using the Logmein plugin to allow anonymous uploads. It works fine in Firefox and Opera, but not in IE8. This initially made me think it must be a cookies and caching issue, but no amount of clearing the IE cache and deleting cookies or restarting the browser makes a difference. The files never upload, though other submitted fields are successfully being recorded. Clearing all caches and cookies in Opera and Firefox both work fine.
Any ideas? I’ve run out :-(
A quick update to this - I’ve tried removing the logmein plugin and using the SAEF while logged in as superadmin, but the problem is still the same, so it may suggest that logmein is not the problem.
Hey Fred, is there a way to use the nGen file field as a standalone upload tool which can be embedded in templates? I have some contributors who are sending me files via upload services and I’d like the to be able to upload their stuff on our own server, via the front-end.
Consider this a feature request 😊
@bobh If I’m understanding what you want correctly you should be able to use a SAEF. If you’re not familiar with them here’s a link to the EE docs. Also here’s more info on using FieldFrame in SAEF.

Oh, I thought using a SEAF meant having to post a weblog entry each time an upload needed to be done. I’ll check it out right away, thanks Fred.
@bobh A SAEF is like adding an entry in the CP. If you just want to upload an unrelated file to your server that’s pretty much outside of EE. You can just use PHP code to do that. The File field type is designed to function within the EE realm, not as a stand alone tool outside of EE. There are plenty of PHP scripts out there for file upload/management.
Many thanks again Fred for fixing the IE bug. I can confirm that your fix works in IE8 as well as IE7. My SAEF also works with the logmein plugin to allow anonymous uploads… hooray!
Now to address the security issues…
PS, Fred do you or nGen have a Paypal donations account? I couldn’t find any links anywhere
Bit of a confusing and urgent error.
Whenever I upload files with nGen File Field, and try to use the {fieldname} within my EE templates, I get the file name appended to the end of my URL, instead of the actual link per the upload settings. I’ve looked through the thread, and perhaps I’ve missed something, but any thoughts?
A quick and dirty workaround I’m using is to append the path to the anchor tag, ala src=”images/uploads/articles/thumbnails/{thumbnail}” – which works fine. But it’s not preferable for various reasons. Nevermind; the quick and dirty workaround is rubbish. The field is taking the current URL, whatever the page, and just tacking the thumbnail image’s filename onto the end of it :(
Just ran into an issue that could use better error reporting, if possible. If i set the upload directory to one that is invalid, the Publish page simply doesn’t render. It was a little bit of sleuthing to figure out that this was the problem – i would have expected to see problems on actual upload but not simply on the publish page. Just thought it might help the User Experience to report such things in error message.
Otherwise, works great. Thanks!
