Of course you are right. Can be done this way.

BTW I emailed you the download link for the german language file.

Thanks again

This is great. I’m converting my site from Wordpress to EE and was using the Gatekeeper plugin for the longest time - which works great. This will be the EE replacement for that.

Great extension!

I have found a bug though, or at least a bug on my end.

I’m using this on my blog currently (http://www.randomjabber.com) and have filled each of the eight questions and answers in the settings for the extension. Each with a unique question and answer.

The bug I’ve found comes into play when you you enter in an answer that is the wrong answer, but it one of the other eight possibilities of answers.

For example. If I have these two questions and answers in the captcha settings:

Question: 1+1 is equal to Answer: 2

Question: Is fire hot or cold? Answer: hot

So, if I go to my site and am faced with “1+1 is equal to” I can answer “hot” and it will still accept it. I assume because it was one of the other 7 answers that I’ve specified in my settings for the extension.

Granted, this probably won’t be much of a problem, but a bug nonetheless.

Thanks

Hi Deron,

This seems to be a ‘feature’ of the EE captcha system. If you refresh the page with the comment form then a new validation word is generated. It seems as if any words generated during your session will be accepted as valid! At least, that is what happens on my install 1.6.0 20070627. I’ll do some digging to see if I can figure out why this is happening.

Cheers

Dry

I edited the lang.core.php file on two of my sites to reflect correct error messages with the new accessible captcha. One one of my sites, it works great with the new messages. On another site, it doesn’t work. I’ve done the same steps for each site yet one doesn’t change.

If I leave the captcha field blank, I get this message (even though I’ve changed the language core file to say something different)

In order to submit this form, you must complete the captcha field.

It should say:

You must answer the spam question correctly before the form can be submitted

It doesn’t really matter to me what the message says, I’m just curious as to why it would change correctly on one site, and not the other? Any ideas?

Hi,

Hmm. Not really. Are both sites the same EE versions? Frankly, that shouldn’t matter but you never know. Do you wanna send me both of your lang files and I’ll have a look?

Cheers

Yep, same versions, but different builds, so maybe I’ll try that. I never thought about checking the builds before you mentioned it.

Yeah sure, I’ll email them to you. If you have time, take a look, but like I said, it’s not a huge deal. 😊

Hi Deron,

If you are using the Freeform module then the lang.freeform.php file on line 367 (or thereabouts) needs to be changed as well.

Cheers

In reference to the above mentioned BUG, it still persists. I am using EE 1.6.4 Build:20080626.

If there is no resolution to this issue, I will continue to use Advanced Captcha (v.1.0.2).

Hi, looks like the extension is not working in EE 1.6.3

Look at the image below.

Hi,

In fact this is not a bug, it is intended behaviour. EE is coded so that captcha words validate for two hours. You’ll have to revert to Derek Jones and the rest of EE team for the rationale behind this.

Cheers

Dry
