OK, just to ease the tension somewhat, I have been authorised to give you a rough (!) ETA. Please don’t hold me to it. Tag 2.0 should be available within the next few weeks; “August” is a good month, I hear.

Are we there yet? Is it ready yet? Why isn’t it ready yet? Where’s the roadmap? And more importantly, can I download it now? Thank you.

Well, I can’t speak for Mitchell, of course, but Tag 2.0 has been in public beta for some time now, and it’s been a success, from what I can tell. A few of the testers are using it in production environments already without any problems. So, while probably no new beta testers are needed at this point, it really shouldn’t be very long now.

I’m running in production on my site and it has been fantastic. the harvesting feature didn’t help me much because like a dummy I didn’t categorize much to start with. But the suggestion stuff is fantastic.

It’s a great module. worth the price easily.

Well, see first when you put your site up you plant some tags. Then in the fall when they boom you harvest them!

I don’t want to define it completely because for me it didn’t work (becaues I don’t use categories) but it grabs the categories and creates tags out of them, then associates all the posts in those categories with that tag.

Maybe someone can answer better

I’m on Tag 2.0. Harvesting is basically a way for you to auto-tag previous posts with Tag 2.0. For example, if you have over 10,000 weblog entries and install the module, do y ou REALLY want to go back and tag all 10,000 of those individually? No, you say? Then use the harvest feature to, at the very least, auto-tag those old entries with tags that match the categories they were assigned to.

It will also harvest tags from a custom field, so if you put keywords for posts into a field previously, it can grab those.

The one and only drawback I see with the module is that if you enter tags and then preview your post, your tags disappear. To work around it, you have to make sure your post is perfect, and then enter the tags right before you publish. Mitchell is working on it, but says if there is no hook to use, it may not be fixable. If this can be worked out though, this module is a no-brainer. Every EE users owes it to themself to buy and install the Tag module.

Dear Paul,

Add in a new hook for Mitchell.

Kthx,

Andru

Anyone have an updated ETA on the 2.0 release?

Anyone have info on the upgrade path? Is it worth going to 1.1.6 and upgrading to 2.0, if the 2.0 release is soon, as it seems to be? Thanks!

No, no firm release dates yet. Buying 1.1.6 now will, of course, get you a free upgrade, so there’s no reason not to 😊 Solspace Support has been known to send the 2.0 Beta version to registered users of 1.1.6, too…

Speaking from experience I’d go ahead and pick it up now.

Is the upgrade fast?

I ask because I’m doing this for a client. I don’t want to charge them for installing, then have to turn around and charge them a bunch more for upgrading a week later, y’know?

You mean the actual upgrade? Replacing the module is all that will be required. You might want to modify your templates to take advantage of the new features, of course. My suggestion is to buy the module, than write to [email protected] and request the 2.0 Beta. Apart from supporting the new MSM, Tag 2.0 is feature complete.

Hey, anyone want to offer up a live example of Tag 2.0 in action? Color me curious. And I don’t yet dream in code or EE algorithms - just design.

One thing worth mentioning (or mentioning again..it may have been said and I missed it) is that the current Tag 2 beta requires EE 1.6. I might have found a good reason to upgrade. 😊

Kevin, Tag 2.0 is running on my site. I’m not sure what particular features you wanted to see, though.
