I’m really looking forward to seeing stable versions come from this. We have a huge need for a stable and usable Gallery, and EE’s gallery module just isn’t doing it for us right now…
Wouldn’t get your hopes up quite yet if I were you, judging from the lack of activity on this thread :\
I don’t think I’ve ever chimed in on this thread, but it seems like I’m always coming upon the need to add a small selection of images to a single entry - and it looks like this Module would do the trick. I’m willing to chip in some brainpower and/or cash to see this developed further.
Note that you can sort of use Mark Huot’s file module (with Multiple turned on) to make a small “gallery” for an entry. I’m doing that on a site now. The only thing you can’t do is reorder the pictures - and I’m sure it’s not as robust a solution as this Module could be.
It’s funny, in almost every project I do I find I could use the ability to easily do a gallery “in” an entry. I still don’t really have an easy go-to solution for clients. It’s genrally between relating a gallery to an entry (which can be tricky), or using Mark Huot’s File module in multiple-upload mode, which doesn’t really give enough control. Someday this will be solved, somehow.
Eric, I don’t give them captions - hence the reason I think it doesn’t give you enough control! If you could give them captions/alt tag, and drag/drop rearrange them, you would have the best little gallery extension.
A full-on weblog is a powerful way to do a gallery but it just seems like overkill sometimes. And the gallery module seems less than useful most of the time. Where’s the in-between solution, you know?
Here we go again! Yet another site where adding about 10 images to each weblog post with a simple caption would be ideal. Another search of the forums, and I end up at this thread again. Ah, to crack open the gallery module or do the weblog thing…same decision to make time after time.
sigh
Yeah, I got some information on what Leevi is up to as well - however, need something I can use right now.
I’d try Gallery Extended, but I’m not really in the mood to pay for a Solspace solution this time - especially one without a screenshot. I mean, what does “treat images like putty” even really mean for $50? Gimme a screenshot. Holy criminey does Solspace need a site redesign.
Anyway, enough about that. Think I’ll just go with a weblog for images, and relate entries there to entries in my main weblog - which is similar in nature, it sounds like, to what GX2 does, but without the tab or $50?

Hey Ryan, why don’t you use multi relationship between weblogs and image gallery?
On the other hand, I really don’t see the point of a separate gallery module e.g. Easy Gallery Module. You can always create a template to show thumbnails of gallery images with their linking information etc. and make this template restrictive so only editors/admins etc. can see it.
What I usually do is to add Dulee Noted to weblogs and place a link to that template group so the client can open a new browser to view all gallery images with their linking information right on the weblog publish page. And because their information is coming from gallery, sorting by category, date, title etc. is also available.
Whoa, Cem, thanks for the interesting suggestions. I’m right in the middle of making a huge form in Freeform, so my mind is sort of concentrating on that, but when I shift gears back to my gallery issue, I’ll re-read your post and try to grok its fullness (sorry…reading “Stranger in a Strange Land” right now…had to get a “grok” in here)
When you say “multi-relationship between weblogs and image gallery” I feel like I’m missing something obvious. You mean to make a new custom field of the “Relationship” type, and select the radio for “Relate weblog entries to gallery entries”? Does that create a multiple relationship (one to many)?

I love to hear stuff like that 😊

Yes, that’s correct. You can then multi select images that are related to that entry. Even further, if you also prefer them to be used in e.g. body section of the form, you can create a dynamic list for TinyMCE to bring e.g. thumbnail info of e.g. all gallery images.
I love to hear stuff like that 😊
well, thanks to you 😊
